QR-based Carpet Warehouse Routing Across 3 Locations

- Live location per carpet
The Friction
What was broken
Jaipur Rugs' handmade carpets pass through multiple process stages across different warehouse locations before they are ready for dispatch - receiving, quality check, washing, drying, finishing, storage, and shipping. Each carpet is unique and has its own production timeline.
With no digital tracking system, there was no reliable way to know where any specific carpet was at any point in time. Staff had to physically search across warehouses when a carpet was needed, or ask around to find out which stage it was currently at.
Across 3 warehouse locations handling thousands of carpets simultaneously, the absence of tracking caused lost inventory, delayed orders, and significant time wasted on manual location searches.
The Solution
What we built
We built a QR code-based mobile tracking system. Each carpet is assigned a unique QR code at receiving. At every subsequent process stage and warehouse location, staff scan the QR code on a React Native mobile app - logging the carpet's current stage, location, and timestamp automatically.
The NestJS backend maintains a complete step-by-step journey log for every carpet - a full timeline from the moment it entered the system to its current position. Any staff member can scan a carpet's QR code and instantly see its complete history and current location.
The system works across all 3 warehouse locations with a unified view, giving management real-time visibility into the entire production floor inventory.
- QR code assignment at receiving for every carpet
- React Native mobile scanning app for warehouse staff
- Stage-by-stage location logging with timestamp
- Full journey history per carpet from entry to dispatch
- Multi-warehouse support - 3 locations in one system
- Real-time inventory visibility for management
- PostgreSQL database for reliable history storage
The Outcome
What changed
Full traceability was achieved across all 3 warehouse locations. Every carpet's position is known at all times - no more physical searches or lost inventory.
Order fulfillment became faster - when a specific carpet is needed, staff can find it instantly via QR scan rather than searching manually.
Management gained a real-time view of production floor inventory for the first time - how many carpets are at each stage, which are delayed, and where bottlenecks are forming.
